The phrase “To coin a phrase”

*Apparently this phrase was first coined^ by Bevin about Peter Mandelson’s grandfather Herbert Morrison.

^The phrase “To coin a phrase” came into common usage in the 1940s. The verb “to coin” originally meant to mint a coin, the verb first appeared in the 14th century but by the 16th century it had become generalised to become to create or invent something.
